A structures inspection program is required to safeguard structural integrity throughout the aircraft's operating life. The inspection program will be prepared from analyses of structures examining airframe susceptibility to fatigue, environmental deterioration (corrosion) and accidental damage.

Structure analysis begins with identification of all Structural Significant Items (SSI’s).

SSI is any detail, element or assembly which contributes significantly to carrying flight, ground, pressure or control loads and whose failure could  effect the structural integrity necessary for the safety of the aircraft – emphasis is on Safety.

Typical examples of SSIs are: Wing and Empennage, Fuselage: Doorframes, Window frames, Engine Mounts, Entrance doors, access doors.
